Charting a New Course for Brooklyn Navy Yard
Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation
Challenge
Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) – which operates a 300-acre manufacturing ecosystem with more than 12,000 employees – sought to amplify its status as a New York City and national leader in urban economic development. To continue its growth path, The Yard wanted to reach business owners, government officials and the general public with its message.
Despite the Yard attracting 500+ businesses, media coverage in the post-COVID years has not fully reflected its role in driving the region’s economic growth.
Solution
Violet PR developed an earned media strategy positioning BNYDC as a vibrant destination for businesses seeking a home in New York City. Through targeted media pitching and press release writing, Violet PR spotlighted key Yard initiatives, including the grand opening of the Market@77 Food Hall, a new computer numerical control (CNC) training program cohort, as well as bold public art installations and sustainability initiatives.
During the program’s first year, Violet PR secured news coverage in outlets including Bloomberg News, Nasdaq, HR Dive, Engineering News Record, Time Out New York and Brooklyn Paper, among others – boosting the Yard’s reputation as an economic development powerhouse.
